Why wasn’t Jackie sued?

Back when this story was unfolding and most experts thought that no one would sue for defamation, I disagreed. I thought not only that the fraternity and some of the individual members would sue because all the old cautions about defamation suits just spreading the rumor were meaningless in the internet age, especially for a sensational, horrible story like this, but also that no one would sue Jackie. Our cultural environment would not stand for suing an alleged victim of rape. Even with solid contrary facts, no one would take the PR heat. No one did.

Also, the University of Virginia did not sue because as a public entity, it cannot sue for defamation.
