… people channelling their skills into the layouts of their journals instead of actual works of art. Maybe, I thought, it’s a symptom of postmodern capitalism’s tendency to devalue everything that can’t be seen as productive: people can’t just draw something, they have to create something utilitarian.
Or perhaps it is procrastination. It is often easier and more fun to create a pretty to do list than it is to do the tasks on the list. You still feel like you did something because you prepared, you planned. It’s kinda a productivity sugar high.
